Acrylic on Canvas, 30" x 60" , Total Valued at $11,500

“There was a moment in my life where everything was dark around me and there wasn’t any hope. My life partner and the father of my kids was diagnosed with cancer with prognoses to live less than a year. My only way to live through this hard time was to paint and express my pain, my love, and my hope. One day I painted this painting and I asked him to name it. He said “Summer Meadow”. Leslie Roberts - MC

Leslie RobertsGrowing up in a family of journalists/broadcasters and a mother who was an assistant to a federal MP, it was not unusual to have both journalists and politicians at Leslie's dinner table. His 20 years in broadcast includes anchoring and reporting at CTV Montreal, News Director and anchor at Global TV Montreal, and a stint in New York City anchoring and reporting at Fox News.

He is currently senior anchor of the "News Hour" on Global Television and host of "The Leslie Roberts Show" on NewsTalk 1010 CFRB.

Bill Carroll - MC

Bill CarrollBill Carroll is the provocative, opinionated and entertaining host of The Bill Carroll Morning Show from 6:00 am - 10:00 am at CFRB 1010 in Toronto. Bill also appears on the Global TV News Hour with Leslie Roberts at 6pm, every weeknight, where he delivers a commentary. He can be seen as a panellist each week on CH TV’s Live at 5:30.

Bill was born in Scotland, the number three of 5 children. His family immigrated to Canada in 1967, settling in Scarborough, Ontario. His love affair with radio began while attending Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute, which offered an outstanding television program and radio club.

After graduation and endless number of tapes sent, Bill landed his first radio job in 1980, in New Liskeard, Northern Ontario. His career has taken him to many parts of the province and, various areas of broadcasting from a reporter, a news anchor to a talk show host, both in radio and TV. He joined CFRB in 1999, where he hosted a mid-morning show until taking the reins of the morning show in January 2007.

When an issue raises his blood pressure, he also writes a column in the National Post. Bill was a devoted teacher for a few years at the broadcasting program offered at Seneca College/York University. Since hosting the morning show at CFRB, he couldn’t continue what is now a passion to him but he sees himself eventually returning to lead the young minds.

Today, as a controversial talk radio host and TV commentator, his opinions are often sought by local and national media on issues as varied as entertainment, relationships and politics. Bill recently won a RTNDA TV award for commentary.

Amanda Martinez - Performer

Amanda MartinezShe captures the raw emotion and passion of Latin music in a way that’s well beyond her years.”
–CBC Radio

Amanda Martinez is a singer, actor, broadcaster and presenter. The launch of her debut recording, Sola (2006) firmly establishes her as Canada’s Latin singer to watch.  Sola, which means “on her own,” garnered Best World Music Artist of the Year at the Toronto Independent Music Awards (2006), and is a top selling album in Toronto stores. Most recently Martinez was nominated as Latin Jazz Artist of the Year at the National Jazz Awards (2007)

Martinez began her musical career singing jazz standards, but she quickly discovered audiences thrilled to her dramatic, sensual interpretations of Latin styles and Brazilian bossa nova. She came by her love of this music honestly.   “Music is in my blood. It was always a part of family gatherings,” says Martinez, who has made multiple trips to both Mexico and Cuba. “My family – my father is Mexican, and my mother is South African -- saturated me with the music of Cuban trovadores, people like Pablo Milanes, Sylvio Rodriguez, and greats like Mercedes Sosa, Elis Regina and Chavela Vargas.”

Martinez, whose work can be filed alongside of innovative singers Lhasa and Lila Downs, arrived at her unique blend of passionate, acoustic Latin music circuitously. She has a Bachelor of Science (University of Western Ontario) and a Masters in International Business (York University). But she chose the performer’s life because she wanted to make a direct, intense connection with people. Her career to date has been profiled by CBC Radio’s Big City, Small World and Metro Morning, and by television stations Bravo, Telelatino, and Rogers.

Acting provides another showcase for Martinez’s charisma and talent. She’s held principal roles on television shows including Train 48, This is Wonderland, Due South and the Disney series Life with Derek.

Since her arrival on the Latin-Canadian music scene in 2001, Martinez has also been sought after as a presenter, hosting Bravo TV’s Live at the Rehearsal Hall, (interviewing songwriter Ben Harper, among others), CITYtv’s Ontario Lottery Tonight, as well as concerts at Lula Lounge and Harbourfront Centre.

Her vital presence in Toronto’s Latin community (she hosts the weekly, popular Café Latino radio show on JAZZFM.91) led to NOW magazine’s nickname: “The Oprah of Latin Music.”  Martinez’ song Diciembre was included on CBC Records’ new release, Sounds of the Season and was recently invited as a featured guest vocalist on Jesse Cook’s latest release Frontiers (EMI).  Amanda is currently celebrating the release of her debut video, Guajira Sola.

Roger Petersen - MC

Roger PetersonRoger has been a part of the CTV Toronto News team since November 2006.

After graduating from Senca College in the Radio and Television Program, Roger worked in radio in Orilla, Brockville, and Windsor/Detriot. His duties included everything from reporting, anchoring, to  morning show host.

Roger made the transition to television with a move to City-TV in 1999. At City, Roger served in a wide variety of roles, including reporter, anchor, and host of Autoshop, a call in car show. This was followed by a stint at City-TV in Vancouver, where Roger was the main news anchor for both the 6:00pm  and 11:00pm News.

As a reporter in Toronto, Roger’s career highlights were reporting on World Youth Day with Pope John Paul II,  and the Rolling Stones concert at Downsview Park.

“The incredible thing about reporting in Toronto is that the city has everything, you never know what you'll be reporting on. Everything from politics, to crime, to the incredibly interesting people who make up Toronto,” Roger explains.

Roger was raised in Weston, Ontario and currently resides in Toronto.
